Pricing & payment
How does your pricing work?
Every service is one flat price, listed right on the Home Services page. Most in-home visits start at $100, which covers the drive out and up to an hour of help. Bigger projects — whole-home Wi-Fi, a computer overhaul, a camera system — are their own flat prices, listed the same way.
If you want more time or a second fix while I'm there, it's $50 per extra half hour, and I'll always ask before continuing. No trip fees, and nothing added to the invoice you didn't agree to.
Repairs start with a $40 diagnostic so I can find the real problem before quoting. Book the repair and that $40 comes off the bill.
Why flat prices instead of hourly?
Because hourly punishes you for having a complicated problem, and it means neither of us knows what the visit costs until it's over. With a flat price, a job that takes me three hours costs the same as one that takes one. That's my problem to manage, not yours.
Do the prices include the equipment?
No — the prices are for my time and work. If a job needs new gear (a router, mesh kit, hard drive, camera, thermostat, cables), I'll tell you exactly what to get and send you a link.
You buy it directly, so you pay store price and I don't add anything on top or take a cut. If you'd rather I pick it up for you, I'm glad to, and I'll just add the receipt to your bill. All I ask is that it's at the house before install day.
What's the $40 diagnostic, and when does it apply?
It applies when something is broken and neither of us knows why yet — a computer that won't start, random freezing, a device nobody can get working. The $40 covers finding the actual cause instead of guessing at it, and ends with a flat price to fix it.
Say yes to the repair and the $40 comes off that bill, so the diagnosis costs you nothing. Say no and you still walk away knowing exactly what's wrong and what it would take — no hard feelings, and no pressure from me.
Setup, installs, backups, and lessons don't need diagnosing, so there's no diagnostic fee on those. You'll always be told about it before I come out, never after.
What if you can't fix my problem?
Then you don't pay the service price — only the $40 diagnostic, which covers the time spent finding out. If it's something outside what I do — a cracked screen, a physically dead hard drive — I'll tell you honestly and point you to someone reputable who handles it.
How do I pay?
Card, check, or cash after the work is done — whatever's easiest. No deposits, no contracts, no automatic charges.
Do you charge extra to drive out to me?
Never within Boone County. Whitestown, Zionsville, Lebanon, Thorntown, Jamestown, Advance, and the rural roads in between — all the same flat price.
The Tech Audit
What is a Home Tech Audit?
One visit, about an hour, room by room. I go through everything in the house that plugs in or connects — Wi-Fi, computers, phones, the TV, cameras, even the car — and check each one with you. Nothing gets changed without your OK.
You end up with a written sheet listing what's working, what's about to give you trouble, and the flat price of each fix. It's $100 for homes up to 3,500 square feet.
Do I have to book work afterward?
No. You keep the completed sheet either way — it's yours, whether you hire me for one thing, everything, or nothing at all. Plenty of people file it away and call six months later when something finally breaks. That's fine by me.
How does the audit credit work?
If you book any job of $200 or more within 30 days of the audit, the full $100 fee comes off that invoice. So the audit effectively costs you nothing if you go ahead with any of the work.
It applies to labor, one time, on a single job — it can't be split across several jobs or refunded.
Is the audit worth it if I already know what's wrong?
If you know exactly what you need, just book that service — don't pay me to tell you what you already know. The audit is for people who suspect several things are off, or who've inherited a setup they didn't build and want to know where they stand.
One thing it often pays for by itself: I check what you're being charged for internet, modem rental, and streaming subscriptions. Overpaying in those three places is close to universal.
Do you audit businesses too?
Yes. The Business Tech Audit is $200 for up to 10 workstations, and covers computers, register, network, email, backups, website, and your Google presence. Book any job of $400 or more within 30 days and the fee comes off that invoice. Details on the Business Services page.
The visit
Do I need to get anything ready before you arrive?
Nope. Just know where your device is and, if you have them handy, any passwords you use. If you can't remember them, that's okay — I deal with that constantly.
Do you take my computer with you, or fix it here?
Whatever's better for the job. Most things I fix right there at your kitchen table so you can see what I'm doing.
Some repairs are genuinely better on my workbench — drive swaps, deep cleanups, builds. In that case I take the device with me and bring it back when it's done. Pickup and return are free anywhere in Boone County, so you never load a computer into your car.
How long does a visit take?
Most are about an hour. Setting up a new computer or untangling a bigger mess takes longer, and you'll have an honest estimate before I start — along with a price that doesn't change if it runs long.
Will you explain what you're doing?
Yes, that's the whole point. I work at your table, not off in a corner, and I narrate in plain English. Before I leave, you get a simple cheat sheet to keep by the computer.
I'm embarrassed to ask "basic" questions.
Please don't be. There are no silly questions here. Helping with the basics is exactly what this business is for, and I don't talk down to anyone.
Can a family member sit in on the visit?
Absolutely, and I encourage it. Adult children often join by phone or in person, especially for password and backup visits. The more of your family that understands the setup, the better.
Trust & safety
Will you need my passwords?
Sometimes, to fix the thing you've asked me to fix — and you type them in yourself whenever possible. I don't store your passwords, and I'll help you keep them somewhere safe that you'll actually use.
Is my private information safe with you?
Yes. I don't copy, keep, or look through your files. I touch only what the job needs, with you watching. You're welcome to sit with me the entire visit — I'd honestly prefer it.
Are you a big company or a franchise?
Neither. Your Tech Neighbor is one local person with an IT background who lives right here in Boone County. When you call, you get me — every time. No ticket numbers, no hold music, no rotating technicians.
What I work on
What devices do you help with?
Windows and Mac computers, iPhones and Android phones, tablets, printers, smart TVs and streaming devices, home Wi-Fi, smart home gear like doorbells, cameras, thermostats and locks — and the tech in your car, like CarPlay and Android Auto. If it plugs in or connects, I can probably help, and if I can't, I'll say so up front.
Do you build custom PCs?
Yes. A standard build is $400, which covers picking the parts with you, assembly, cable management, testing, Windows and drivers, and moving your files over from the old machine. Custom cooling, small-form-factor, or multi-GPU builds are $800.
You buy the parts yourself at store price — I send you the list to approve first and I don't mark anything up.
Do you fix cracked screens or broken hardware?
I don't repair cracked screens on phones, tablets, or laptops — for those I'll point you to a reputable repair shop. Desktop PCs are a different story: memory, drives, power supplies, and graphics cards are all things I replace and upgrade. Parts are priced separately at cost, and I'll quote everything before ordering.
Do you mount TVs?
I don't do the mounting itself — that's drywall and stud work, and there are folks around here who do it better than I would. Once it's on the wall, though, I'm happy to handle the rest: picture settings, sound, streaming apps, and getting it down to one remote.
Do you help small businesses too?
Yes — shops, offices, farms, and home businesses. Business email and your own domain, networks and Wi-Fi, backups, websites, your Google Business Profile, and a monthly plan so you always have someone to call. Prices are on the Business Services page.
Can you teach me, not just fix it?
Gladly. Plenty of neighbors book the $100 visit purely as a lesson: "show me how to video call the grandkids," "help me organize my photos," "teach me to spot scam texts." Bring a list of questions — the hour is yours.
Scheduling
How soon can you come out?
Usually within a few days, often sooner. Every visit is scheduled personally — call or send a note through the contact page and we'll find a time together.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Just let me know — no cancellation fees. Life happens, and I'd rather rebook you than charge you.
Do you offer evening or weekend visits?
Yes. I work seven days a week, 9am to 9pm, Saturdays and Sundays included. Call (463) 200-0150 and we'll find a time that fits your schedule.
Still have a question?
Call (463) 200-0150 and ask a real person — or go ahead and book, and ask everything during the visit. You can also read about who I am.
